National society collegiate scholars scam

Just got some mail from the National Society of Collegiate Scholars offering membership to the organization for a fee of $97. Was wondering if this was an actual legit thing that the school offers, or if it was just a massive scam.. any takes on this?

Right-- no one here said either the national society of collegiate scholars or the National society of HS scholars were "scams". I'll say it - NSCS and NSHSS are scams. What are the requirements to be in National Society of Collegiate Scholars? To be eligible, you must: Attend a college or university where there is an active chapter of NSCS. Attain at least a 3.4 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and be in the top 20 percent of your class. There are some honor societies that do have some value in terms of scholarships or opportunities, but they are few and far between. In general, you should never have to pay money for an awarded honor, and never give your info to these types of "honor societies", total scams and a waste of money, all they're good for is an overpriced bumper sticker.May 1, 2006. #5. NSHSS means automatic acceptance to Harvard. but like actually, this question is asked so many times and the answer is always yes it is a scam. It's not exactly a scam, but it doesn't make a difference on you college applications because pretty much everyone is offered an invitation. It's a legit organization, it's just that, well, you pay $95 just to basically say that you have a good GPA, which is something that employers can easily see on your resume.
